Centering Healthcare Institute Grant/ Research Policy
Centering Healthcare Institute (CHI) is committed to partnering with and participating in research, pilot studies and other projects based on the Centering Group Model of health care. The majority of these projects are accomplished through the use of funds obtained from private, corporate or government grants. CHI must be a participant in the grant proposal process when the study involves the Centering Group Model and should be considered for co-authorship. The staff and Board of Directors have created a policy to assist researchers in creating a successful relationship with CHI and to assure appropriate use of the model. The Executive Director and her staff are eager to assist researchers to meet these guidelines and will provide consultation in the proposal process. We ask that any researcher and/or organization follow these guidelines in their research proposal.
- CHI must be advised in advance of submission of any project when a CHI program is a component of the grant proposal.
- CHI must approve the use of its programs in the project/ proposal prior to submission of the grant. While unlikely, CHI reserves the right to decline approval if there is:
- inappropriate use of the model
- lack of internal assurance of fidelity to the model
- inadequate training of the leadership and participants
- There will be a mutually discussed and written agreement between the Executive Director of CHI and the researchers on the compensation of CHI staff for their roles and responsibilities. CHI requires use of its group materials for all research purposes and expects to review any additional materials developed for use in Centering groups.
- CHI expects that most grants using the Centering model will include 10% of the grant budget for staff hours to oversee aspects of the grant directly related to CHI. In addition individual consultation may also be provided based upon the needs of the researcher and will be added to the minimum.
- Prior to submission, CHI must review the grant and/or any sections of the grant that refer to the Centering Group Model, its history, application and existing research, as well as any description of the work/role/support provided by CHI.
- CHI must be alerted as soon as notice is received of grant funding so appropriate expectations can be established.
- It is expected that all sites participating in the study and offering care through the Centering model will apply for Site Approval.
- Departure from these guidelines will require the consent of the Board of Directors of CHI.
